The letter began: “To all of the wonderful & caring volunteers at Recycling Furniture for Families.” One of the nicest thank-you notes we ever received was from a middle-aged disabled woman with chronic diseases.
After she met with another social service agency and got a referral, she talked with an RF4F volunteer “for a brief interview to let them know my needs and such. I was then invited into the warehouse, quite an enormous and overwhelming place indeed. The volunteer worker guided me through this area to choose the items I was in greatest need of. The volunteer put a sticker with my name on it, and we continued through the warehouse. I was allowed and encouraged, with the greatest kindness, to take whatever it was I needed. These folks were SO kind to me…..”
After our volunteers delivered her furniture a few days later, she wrote, “This agency is truly amazing. It’s mostly run by volunteers who are not burned out by the ‘system.’ They are kind, filled with God’s love, and not condescending to the client.”
“I was treated with the utmost respect as any client in any situation, should always be treated…I can’t possibly convey my gratitude to RF4F, except to say thanks, many many thanks to the entire staff for me.”
